Navi Mumbai Raheja Residency Fire Tragedy – 4 Dead, 10 Injured |
Fire Tears Through Raheja Residency Tower
A
terrifying blaze erupted late Monday night inside the Raheja Residency complex in Sector 14, Vashi, Navi Mumbai. The fire, which reportedly began around 12:30 AM, quickly spread upward from the 10th floor, engulfing the upper levels in dense smoke and flames. Residents were jolted awake as alarms blared and chaos took over the tower.
According to local authorities, four residents — including two women, a man, and a six-year-old girl — tragically lost their lives. Ten others sustained serious burns and breathing complications as they tried to escape the inferno.
Firefighters Battle Through the Night
F
ire tenders from across Navi Mumbai rushed to the scene within minutes. Teams battled the flames for nearly four hours before declaring the situation under control by dawn. “The fire spread rapidly between the 10th and 12th floors due to vertical air drafts,” a senior fire officer said, adding that all residents from nearby wings were safely evacuated.
ACP Adinath Raghunath Budhavant confirmed that 14 individuals were directly affected. “Despite our best rescue efforts, four people couldn’t be saved. The investigation into the cause of the fire is underway,” he noted.
Victims Undergoing Treatment at Fortis Hospital
M
ost of the injured were immediately admitted to Fortis Hospital in Vashi. Doctors said several victims suffered from second-degree burns and severe smoke inhalation. A few were discharged after stabilization, while others remain in critical care. Hospital officials are coordinating with civic authorities to ensure full medical support.
Initial reports suggest the fire might have been triggered by an electrical malfunction, though officials have yet to confirm this. A detailed forensic examination is now being conducted to determine the exact cause.
Authorities Promise Accountability
C
ivic and police officials have pledged a full inquiry into safety lapses at the high-rise. Residents allege that fire alarms didn’t ring in some parts of the building and emergency exits were partially blocked. The Navi Mumbai Municipal Corporation is now inspecting similar residential towers to prevent future incidents.
The tragedy has once again reignited discussions on fire safety in Mumbai’s growing skyline — a reminder that urban infrastructure must evolve faster than the city’s pace of construction.
