AAP MLA Harmeet Singh Pathanmajra Calls Police Action ‘Political Vendetta’
Patiala: AAP MLA from Sanaur, Harmeet Singh Pathanmajra, who has been declared an absconder in a rape case, has released a fresh video levelling serious allegations against Punjab Police and the state government. He accused authorities of selective action, harassment of his family, and political victimisation for raising uncomfortable questions in the Assembly.
Claims of Targeted Action
In his video, Pathanmajra compared the scale of police raids against him with the handling of other rape cases in Punjab. Referring to the large operation in Karnal, Haryana on September 2, he alleged that the deployment of unprecedented force highlighted a deliberate attempt to intimidate him. He also accused police of placing his ailing wife under “house arrest” for nearly a month and held the government responsible for her well-being.
Accusations of Mental Torture
The legislator said his family has been subjected to mental torture through police actions, including multiple FIRs against his relatives. He expressed fear that if he surrendered, his life would be in danger. However, he also stated faith in the judiciary, saying he hoped to secure anticipatory bail soon.
Support and Criticism
Pathanmajra thanked Congress leaders Partap Bajwa and Sukhpal Singh Khaira for voicing concerns in the Punjab Assembly, while criticising his own party colleagues and farmer unions for staying silent. He insisted that his troubles began after he raised issues like flood relief and interference by the so-called “Delhi lobby.”
Police and Government Stand
Police officials have so far declined to comment on his allegations. Pathanmajra has been on the run since September 1 after being booked for rape, cheating, and criminal intimidation. Punjab Police’s attempt to arrest him in Karnal led to dramatic scenes, with allegations of stone pelting and firing by his supporters, though accounts of the incident differ between Punjab and Haryana police.
Eviction Dispute
Adding to his woes, authorities served an eviction notice on his family to vacate their official residence in Patiala. The government accused him of misuse of the property, non-payment of dues, and violation of allotment rules. His wife, Simranjit Kaur, has challenged the order in court, calling it arbitrary and politically motivated. The matter is due for hearing on October 1.

वीडियो में पथानमाजरा ने कहा कि उनके खिलाफ जिस पैमाने पर पुलिस कार्रवाई कर रही है, वैसा अन्य मामलों में देखने को नहीं मिलता। 2 सितंबर को करनाल (हरियाणा) में चले हाई-प्रोफाइल ऑपरेशन का जिक्र करते हुए उन्होंने कहा कि इतनी बड़ी पुलिस फोर्स की तैनाती का मकसद सिर्फ उन्हें डराना था। उन्होंने यह भी दावा किया कि उनकी बीमार पत्नी को लगभग एक महीने से “हाउस अरेस्ट” में रखा गया है और अगर उनकी तबीयत बिगड़ी तो इसकी जिम्मेदारी सरकार की होगी।
मानसिक प्रताड़ना का आरोप
विधायक ने कहा कि उनके परिवार को झूठे मुकदमों और लगातार पुलिस दबाव से मानसिक प्रताड़ना दी जा रही है। उन्होंने आशंका जताई कि अगर वे सरेंडर करेंगे तो उनकी जान को खतरा हो सकता है। हालांकि उन्होंने न्यायपालिका पर भरोसा जताया और जल्द जमानत मिलने की उम्मीद जताई।
समर्थन और आलोचना
पथानमाजरा ने कांग्रेस नेताओं प्रताप बाजवा और सुखपाल सिंह खैरा का धन्यवाद किया जिन्होंने विधानसभा में इस मुद्दे को उठाया। वहीं, उन्होंने अपने पार्टी विधायकों और किसान यूनियनों पर चुप्पी साधने का आरोप लगाया। उनका कहना है कि बाढ़ राहत और “दिल्ली लॉबी” की दखलअंदाजी जैसे मुद्दे उठाने के बाद ही उनके खिलाफ कार्रवाई तेज हुई।
पुलिस और सरकार का पक्ष
पुलिस अधिकारियों ने उनके आरोपों पर कोई प्रतिक्रिया नहीं दी है। पथानमाजरा 1 सितंबर से फरार हैं, जब उन पर रेप, धोखाधड़ी और धमकाने का केस दर्ज हुआ। करनाल में उन्हें पकड़ने गई पुलिस और उनके समर्थकों के बीच झड़प हुई थी। पंजाब और हरियाणा पुलिस के बीच इस घटना की अलग-अलग कहानियां सामने आई हैं।
मकान खाली करने का विवाद
उनकी मुश्किलें और बढ़ गईं जब प्रशासन ने उनके परिवार को पटियाला स्थित सरकारी मकान खाली करने का नोटिस दिया। सरकार ने आरोप लगाया कि मकान का राजनीतिक सभाओं के लिए दुरुपयोग किया गया और किराया नहीं चुकाया गया। उनकी पत्नी सिमरनजीत कौर ने अदालत में इस आदेश को चुनौती दी है। मामला 1 अक्टूबर को सुनवाई के लिए तय है।
